The island natives are the Sea Gypsies.
This one of the very last unexplored part of Asia. There were only very few people who ever did some research in the forgotten part of the world. The English did some expeditions primarily to cheat the natives by taking their pearls and giving them opium and alcohol.
Before there were more reasonable Chinese and Portuguese who traded in this good plus fish and amber.
Luckily now the Myanmar government took control which is also not the best but at least the have a chance to restart.
